Hi everyone! I’m Jenny and I have just completed a week's work experience with the Youbee Media team. It has been an enlightening experience; I would love to share this with you and tell you a bit about me and what I've been getting up to!
About me
I am currently in my 3rd and final year at the University of Leeds, studying a Media and Communications course. Throughout the course, I have enjoyed learning modules such as promotional culture, understanding the audience, digital cultures, and visual communication. I’ve always found myself engaging with more creative, interactive, and communicative subjects, as I love using my imagination. In recent years, I have discovered a passion for marketing and social media, and I am eager to develop a career path in this industry. The experience at Youbee Media has given me insight into a successful marketing agency with a welcoming team!
Alongside my studies, I have also maintained my love for dance by joining the Street Dance Society at the University of Leeds. I have been dancing since the age of 3 and I have always had a passion for all styles of dance!
I believe it allows me to express myself differently and helps build relationships with friends. In my spare time, I also love reading and going to the gym. Some of my favourite books would probably be ‘It Ends with Us’ by Colleen Hoover or ‘Behind Closed Doors’ by B.A. Paris, two very different genres!
What I’ve enjoyed this week
From my first impressions of the Youbee team, they have been so welcoming, friendly, and supportive when guiding me through the week. They optimised my experience by throwing me in the deep end as Becky invited me to come along to the launch of the Northern Max Accelerator 2024. I enjoyed attending this event with Becky as it allowed me to network with other people within the industry and capture some video content for social media. It was inspiring to listen to people from different enterprises about their stories and how they are striving to grow their businesses. I also got the chance to write a blog about the programme for the organisation running the event, which I thoroughly enjoyed as I love writing!
I have learn't so much!
Throughout my time at Youbee Media, I have gained some valuable information about the world of marketing and social media management. I had one-on-one sessions with Olivia, Dena, and Becky, including attending marketing workshops, which helped me see how theory translates into practice. which I attained an understanding of each of their roles and what they enjoy most about their job. Olivia showed me how to use tools like Canva to design social media posts for clients and Dena showed me a bit about graphic design and how to use tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I’ve also learnt that you don’t have to know everything straight away! Businesses and clients have different preferences when it comes to marketing and how they choose to collaborate with marketing agencies.
What I’m looking forward to in the future
After I have completed my degree, I would love to work for a marketing consultancy whether it's Youbee Media or a different company! I am looking forward to learning more about marketing, especially learning more about social media, graphic design and writing more blogs!
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience this week at Youbee Media and loved meeting the team. I want to thank Becky, Olivia, and Dena for giving me the best experience possible and giving up their time.
