Here we go again…
As we know, and previously mentioned in another blog of mine, TikTok is the world’s fastest growing social media platform ever. With over 3 billion downloads, TikTok continues to be the market leader within the social media industry. Since TikTok’s launch in 2016, many platforms have tried to compete and create a similar concept. Now it’s Facebook’s turn. Meta (parent company of Instagram and Facebook) launched Instagram Reels in 2020 and has now made Reels accessible to users on Facebook worldwide, in order to expand the way users access content. The question is, ‘Will it catch on?’

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta says, “Reels is already our fastest growing content format by far, and today we’re making it available to everyone on Facebook globally.”
In my opinion, I think Facebook has it’s place for videos - over half the time we spend on the app is spent watching videos. It's also a feature I'm being asked about more and more in marketing consultancy chats as businesses try to keep up.
The ‘Remix’ feature will be included in Facebook Reels to boost trend interaction, and creators will be able to upload Facebook Reels up to 60 seconds long, similar to Instagram's Reels extension. Users will be able to share publicly uploaded Reels to their Stories, increasing the possibility for engagement.
Monetisation
A significant issue for TikTok is that their short-form content is difficult to monetise, because you can't attribute pre-roll or mid-roll advertising to specific clips as you can with lengthier postings. Therefore, for creators and influencers, TikTok will always be a supplementary medium with no ability to compete on the same scale as the longer form uploads on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. With less revenue being earned, it means fewer creators will put significant work into their TikTok clips. Additionally, if they can use Reels and Shorts to directly promote their core money-making content, why would they bother with TikTok at all?
Reels For Business

Your audience love seeing you. Your Brand, Your team, Your Business. We love to get to know you through, “How To” videos, or a “Meet the Team” video. This is gold! Producing content like this puts you ahead of many other businesses that don’t see the value in it. With their high reach/engagement rate, Reels are crucial for showcasing small businesses, and reaching a wider audience. One of the top tips for successfully marketing your business is to build that relationship - with your customers, potential customers and wider audience. People connect better with you when you are transparent and authentic. So, introduce your team or create content that shows ‘Behind the Scenes’! Remember, people do business with people.
