Hello to all reading, I’m Youbee’s Newbee, Olivia!

You may or may not have met me already as I’ve now been part of the team for four full weeks, but for all who haven’t, I’m Olivia, the Hive’s newest team member. I joined the team at the start of August and I’m working as a digital marketing apprentice. I’m fresh out of college and really motivated to apply all the skills I learnt throughout my A Level courses into my job role. Being a student of Media studies, Graphic Design and Business, I joined with an understanding of the marketing industry, but little experience working in an marketing consultancy. Within just one month working in Youbee Media, I have learnt so many valuable skills that I never expected I’d gain so quickly.
Throughout my course with Baltic Apprenticeships, I will learn the fundamentals of marketing, coding and Google Analytics, alongside social media monitoring, creating graphics and content, collecting and reviewing data and more. All these elements of my studies will cover day to day aspects of my role at Youbee Media.
What I’ve learned so far
Something I quickly learnt from my time at Youbee is that everything is constantly changing. From the growth of Youbee Media with new client wins to the ever-changing social media platforms. I’ve learnt that its very important that I’m up to date with everything, always willing to gain new skills and adapt to changes whether that be internal or external.
In just my first month at Youbee, we’ve gained 4 new clients (Woop Woop!), which means I got thrown straight into the business, meeting our new clients face to face and virtually. This has allowed me to learn exactly what Youbee offers for different businesses (if you want to check out our services, click here).
I’ve discovered that multitasking is an important skill to have when working within a marketing agency, as my day-to-day work involves switching between clients and creating social media and blog posts where I must embody their business. Constantly researching and developing my knowledge of our clients is important to me to ensure that I have a great understanding of what the client does, their voice and their aims.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!
Being new to an agency means you don’t always get it right first time and you can’t know everything straight away. That’s something I wish I told myself at the start of this job. I always thought that the content I produced had to be absolutely perfect, and if any mistakes were made or if anything wasn’t as it should be it would be detrimental and disappointing. But what I’ve learnt to accept is that it’s okay to get it wrong, as it fuels me to do better. Being surrounded by such a supportive team means if I ever make a mistake in the task I’m undertaking, I’ve got Becky, Emma and Dena to help direct me and to make it better.
I’ve found that the best way to avoid these mistakes is to communicate with the team, as the diversity of their skillsets and knowledge helps widen my perception of the task in hand. One of my favourite things about working within The Hive is how close we work together, collaborating and sharing ideas constantly; so the content we produce is always of the best quality.
I never thought I’d gain so much random knowledge!
Working with such a range of clients means no two tasks are ever the same. In my first week of working at Youbee Media, I wrote blogs about diseases within horses, and electronic security systems – two topics I had no prior knowledge of. Revisiting old strategy documents and reading through past blogs on client websites really helped enrich my knowledge and allowed me to produce accurate content.
When I started this job, I never thought I’d learn as much as I have already, you really do learn something new every day! I’ve only been here for 1 month, so I’m very excited to see what the future holds! I know that Becky already has be lined up to attend some of her marketing workshops, so that will be a huge help too and a chance to see first-hand what we do.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little. If you’d like to chat more, pop me a ‘Hello’ on Twitter and Linkedin or connect with us via @youbeemedia on Instagram.
