The start of a new year is a great time to kick-start your marketing, set goals and a plan in place and learn about the current trends and to be looking out for. To make things much easier for you, Youbee Media have put together 5 trending updates that we believe all businesses should be aware of in 2022. This blog will help you to focus your efforts and keep on top of your marketing goals and social media management.
You can also join one of our marketing workshops to learn how to apply these trends directly to your business.
Clubhouse is adding pinned links to rooms

If you aren’t yet aware of Clubhouse, it’s an audio based social media app. The app allows people everywhere to talk, tell stories, develop ideas, deepen friendships, and meet new people around the world. The concept of the platform is designed for clubhouse members to invite their friends to join the app and get socialising. This means that you can only join when you’ve been invited!
In 2022, the Clubhouse app is looking to add more context to chat rooms with a new Pinned Links feature. This provides Room moderators an opportunity to redirect their visitors to related content elsewhere on the web. Creators of Clubhouse are hoping that this will offer an opportunity for a more engaged audience.
“We suspect that people will use Pinned Links in all sorts of fun ways — like playing games, running polls, and sharing links to YouTube videos. Just as importantly, we’re excited to see Pinned Links help room creators drive people to subscribe to their Substack, download their podcast, read their book, go see them at The Laugh Factory, discover their new single, buy their product, and support their Patreon or GoFundMe page.”
Twitter Spaces

Twitter has recently launched Twitter ‘Spaces’ and the feature is currently being rolled out. This is a new tab that allows any user to actively listen and interact with trending topics all over the world – essentially, it’s a live podcast that everyone within the group can have their say. The team at Youbee Media think that this is a great feature that allows for open, authentic, and unfiltered discussions between like minded people. Your profile is also highlighted showing your followers you’re listening to a live group, which encourages them to join the same space, and to get involved with you.
Twitter has always been known for showcasing the ‘here and now’ content and capitalises on trending content. Twitter Spaces may just take this opportunity to the next level. Let us know if you have the feature and have listened to any interesting live chats yet!
Instagram creates a ‘take a break’ feature
Social media addiction has become a much-debated topic for users young and old. Its impact on our mental health and wellbeing has become more prevalent and it’s something that app creators are aware of. To help make looking after our mental health should be a priority, Instagram has introduced two features to help give users a digital switch off. These features are "Take a Break" and "Daily Limit." Both features encourage users to stop using the app after a set amount of time and break the scrolling cycle. These features give you the option to have a reminder every, 10, 20 or every 30 minutes to encourage you to stop scrolling and do something else.
We think that this is a great initiative from Instagram.
Video content will continue to thrive
In previous blog posts I have written about the many benefits of video marketing for small businesses. So it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that many online sources are indicating that video content will continue to soar in 2022. Many audiences prefer to engage with shorter video style content, so our team would recommend that this medium remains in your marketing plan for 2022. Video marketing is a great way to tell your story, showcase your products and give your audience a break from reading posts on social media. Use this approach to stand out against your competition and showcase what makes your business different.
Facebook reactions in Groups are now available on comments

Facebook has quietly given users the ability to "react" to a person’s comments in a group, in the same way they can react to posts. However, these reactions differ from the ‘like’, ‘love’ and ‘laughing’ emojis that we’ve been used to.
Now, users can ‘Award’ content and deem it to be Insightful, Uplifting, Informative, Fun, Relevant or give Positive Vibes. The thought behind this move is to help members in a group understand what comments are most helpful, fun or make them feel good. Likewise, it can give people an opportunity to stay away from negative comments or ones which others don’t award.
As a digital marketing consultancy, it’s our job to keep on top of trends, spot new opportunities and to help our clients make a return on investment for their online marketing activity.
