My First 4 Weeks At Youbee Media

Hello to everyone reading this, thank you for taking a look at Youbee Media’s latest blog! I am Youbee Emma, a Digital Marketer who has just joined the Youbee Media Hive a few weeks ago. As I am still quite new, you may or may not know who I am or we may not have met yet. For those of you who don’t know me, I am quickly going to tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Emma and I live with my parents in North Leeds. I enjoy going out for food with my friends as well as going to the cinema and doing a small spot of shopping (obviously when we can!). I am a pescatarian, which means that I have avoided meat for over 10 years. I also enjoy posting on social media myself, staying up to date with the latest news on Twitter and watching trending videos on TikTok and Snapchat.
Over the last 4 weeks, my time at Youbee Media has been mad! (In the best possible way!) As you may know, I am new to the marketing industry and social media management so there are many things I am still trying to understand. However here are just some of the things I have learnt over the past few weeks:
The art of multi-tasking
Working in a marketing consultancy definitely keeps you on your toes. I have learnt that the ability to switch ‘hats’ every hour or less (otherwise known as multi-tasking) is very important and is quite a skill when working in an agency. I have been writing blogs for certain clients, and then switching to producing an Instagram post for a different client using a completely different tone of voice and set of objectives.
Multi-tasking started off as challenge in my first week, however, now, it’s starting to feel more natural and I feel more confident in doing those things for our clients. That skill for me has improved over the past 4 weeks and will be a valuable skill for the future.
Things WILL go wrong
No matter what job you have or what position you are in, you will always do something wrong but that’s ok because that is how we grow as people. I always thought it would be detrimental if I ever miss-spelled something or uploaded a blog incorrectly. However, I have learnt that the secret is not waiting for things to get better it’s your ability in making the error right and how quickly you react, is the important part to this.
The internet is more complicated and connected than I ever knew
As for most of us, using the internet feels second nature – I used it without really thinking about what was going on behind the scenes. Through using Google Analytics for various clients, I have learnt so much about customer behaviours and how we target and re target potential customers. The tool allows us, for example, to see click through rates, no. of page views and time spent on page, which I have found very useful to see which marketing campaign we have created has been the most effective for website traffic.
Recently for me, a pixel tracking code has become a popular term used day to day. I never fully understood what it did or how to use it but through setting one up for a client recently, it has allowed me to grasp a better understanding of its use and purpose.
Online Marketing resources are endless
The internet has a plethora of online resources that we can use to support our marketing messages. I always thought these marketing tools came with a huge cost due to its success rate, however applications like LinkedIn, Hootsuite, Creator Studio and Buffer are all tools we at Youbee Media use regularly to support our clients’ marketing strategies. I have produced email campaigns on Mailchimp, scheduled content on Creator Studio and have gathered a great pool of knowledge to which I can publish/create content with little guidance from Youbee Becky!
Get the right message to the right person at the right time
In the past I have heard people say this before, and only now, whilst working in the marketing industry have I realised it is completely true! I have found delivering the message isn’t the hardest part, nor is it too difficult to make sure it’s the right one, but I have found that it’s doing it at the right time for your targeted audience is the tricky part. I have found being relevant and consistent to your audience, is what clients find the trickiest.
At Youbee Media, we can use scheduling tools to plan ahead and ensure your messages are sent at the right time. But really, we’re pretty well rehearsed at planning our day to make sure that marketing messages hit the right notes.
The power of hashtags
Hashtags are again, something I see everyday on all my social media platforms. Similar to Google, I used them without really thinking about the value that came with them. I don't know if I am late to this, but just recently, I have seen how they bring value to growing pages. Users follow trending hashtags, and therefore will see content which feature the hashtag they follow. I used popular hashtag when creating a post for our Youbee Media page, and saw through Instagram insights that 54% of our reach weren't following the page. Meaning that, over half of the people our post reached, came from the hashtags we used - I had no idea the value of them!
As you can tell, my first 4 weeks here have been full of learning so many new skills. I’m still getting to grips with how we do things, but every day is a lesson!
Let’s bring on the next 4 weeks of fun!
Emma
